Our Approach to Legal Fees

At The Legal House, we believe in upfront clarity and transparent pricing. Legal matters vary significantly in scope, which is why our fees are structured across two clear models:

Transparent Starting Rates & Defined Packages: For routine, clearly defined matters, such as standard Wills, uncontested Divorce applications, and baseline Binding Financial Agreements, we provide transparent starting rates so you know your expected investment upfront.
Time-Recorded & Tailored Quotes: For dynamic or contested matters, including complex parenting arrangements, property settlements, and estate disputes, fees are billed on a time-recorded basis with clear stage-by-stage estimates provided before each phase.

Divorce Applications From $1000

Divorce Application (no appearance)(sole or joint)

Normal Fee: $1,500
Google Special Rate: $1,000

Action Required: If parties are eligible, they can apply for a divorce if have been separated for min. 12 months, prepare Divorce Application, marriage certificate (if not in english, then a translation of the marriage certificate & an affidavit by the person who translated it, an Affidavit for eFiling Application (Divorce). If a sole application, serve the documents on the other side & file the eFile Affidavit and/or Acknowledgement of Service (if applicable), if a sole application - file the eFile Affidavit signed by both parties. No appearance necessary if no Response has been filed to a sole application, neither party has requested to attend a hearing or if both parties to a joint application have elected not to attend a hearing.

Action Required: Divorce Application, marriage certificate (if not in english, then a translation of the marriage certificate & an affidavit by the person who translated it, Affidavit of the Applicant deposing to circumstances of separation under one roof , Affidavit of an independent person acknowledging aware of separation under one roof,if a joint application, an Affidavit by the other applicant and an addditional independent person is required, Affidavit of eFiling Application (Divorce),if a sole application, serve the documents on the other side & file the eFile Affidavit and Acknowledgement of Service.

BFA (advice only)

Action Required: Copy Binding Financial Agreement from the other party’s solicitors, instructions from client, obtain financial disclosure documents for provision to the other side, obtain other side’s financial disclosure documents, letter of advice to client, more work required in any superannuation splitting order, appointment to sign off on BFA & send to other side for signature, receive certified copy of fully executed document.

Action Required: Draft Binding Financial Agreement after taking instructions from client, obtain client’s financial disclosure documents to provide to the other side, obtain other side’s financial disclosure documents, more work required for any superannuation splitting order, letter of advice to client, send finalised copy of BFA to other side for signature and return, appointment to sign off on BFA & send certified copy of fully executed document to other side.

Action Required: Obtain instructions from client as to Executor, substitute Executors incl. full names, addresses, email address and mobile numbers, same for any Guardians of minors, beneficiaries etc, appointment to sign with client.

  My sister and I were recommended by a friend in the legal fraternity to seek the services of The Legal House after the passing of our dear mother. Mum passed in April and her estate was a little complex as she had made her will in NSW and she passed away in QLD. Nick Harrison was there to take on the process and made everything very easy for us to be able to finalize mum's estate.   We engaged The Legal House, in particular Nick Harrison, to sort out our wills and EPOAs.  We had not made wills in the past and we had some complex issues, in our opinion, re inheritors.  Nick made us comfortable from the start.  Our initial correspondence was done via email, but once the nitty gritty had been worked out, we visited him in his rooms.  Everything was done according to our wishes.  Nick explained some legalities that we were unaware of, having not done this before, and helped us to arrive at the best solution, given our situation.
